What is a backlink?

   "Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites."

2. Article directories - Article directories allow you submit an article you have written. The bottom of the article should include a link to your website. The article is published on the article directory, which gains you a backlink. If other webmasters use your article on their website, you get another backlink. 3. Friends websites - If your friends or family have websites then ask them to link to yours.
   
4. Blog or website comments - Many blog and website pages have a comments section. You can often leave a website or web page URL in the comment. Most blogs and websites use the rel='nofollow' attribute for comment hyperlinks, to prevent spam. However, recently many blogs have started to remove this attribute if the comment poster has made more than 5 (or similar) comments. This encourages blog commenter's to post good quality comments.
   
5. Forum signatures - Many forums allow you to add one, or more, links to your forum signature. Any posts you make to the forum will also include your signature links. Some forum system use the rel='nofollow' hyperlink attribute.
